Bloomfield Walnut Grove
1 Little Scotland Road, Stanley VIC 3747, Stanley
Bloomfield Walnut cottage is a large brick almost untouched country house built in 1866 by the man who discovered gold at Stanley. Set on 2 acres of orchards, well- established gardens including a fragrant rose-arbour, vegetable garden and pond encouraging a wide range of native birds, the house features painted floors, high ceilings, open fire-places and access to the verandah from the dining room and several bedrooms.
Built from hand-made red bricks as a family home by Joseph Bigelow, who was the first to discover gold in Stanley in 1852, Bloomfield was occupied by the family for over forty years. Recent additions include hydronic heating and modern en-suite bathrooms to all the bedrooms.
Bloomfield is a perfect venue for family relaxation. The grounds provide a safe environment for children to experience creative play and be out from under parent's feet. Most of the garden can be observed from the house, allowing parents to keep an eye on children's activities. Just keep in mind the unfenced dam on the property.
